Wednesday Walks

Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary Wales, MA

Join us on a walk through our Sanctuary every Wednesday morning beginning June 22 and ending on September 21.
Observe a variety of habitats along the way as we travel on paths not typically available to the public. You never know what types of flora and fauna we will see!
These walks are geared for adults and are generally 3-4 miles at a medium to quick pace.
Meet at the Visitor Center kiosk.  Walks begin promptly at 8:00 am.

Guided Walk – Peruse the Ponds

Join us for a guided walk around a few of the beautiful ponds at the Sanctuary!
Observe a variety of habitats along the way as we travel on paths not typically available to the public.
This easy to moderate hike is geared for adults and is approximately 3 1/2  miles long.
Please meet at the Visitor Center kiosk by 10:00 am.  
If there is inclement weather, please call 413-245-1353 to confirm that hike will be taking place.

CANCELLED: Guided Walk – Scenic Woods Walk

Scenic Woods Walk
On Saturday, October 1, 2022 join us for a guided walk through the Sanctuary woods.
During this moderate to semi-difficult hike, we will walk off of the regular paths, up and over hills, through the woodlands in search of early autumn flora and fauna.
This hike is geared towards adults and is approximately 4 miles long.
We will meet at the Visitor Center kiosk for a 10:00 am departure.
If there is inclement weather, please call 413-245-1353 to confirm that hike will be taking place.

Join us on a guided walk out to the beautiful Vineca Pond.  This is a moderate, 4.5 mile hike through parts of our sanctuary not typically open to the public.

Winter Lecture Series: Reptiles and Amphibians of Massachusetts – Citizen Science and Endangered Species ***REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT***

Massachusetts supports a notable richness of reptiles and amphibian species for a relatively small and northern state. Nearly 50 spectacular and interesting species are found from the salt marshes of Cape Cod and Buzzards Bay to the calcareous fens of Berkshire County. In this 1-hr presentation we will discuss a representative selection of native species, including case studies, and a new effort to map species distributions and important habitats.

Winter Lecture Series: Massachusetts Forest Update

Join the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Forest Health Specialist, Felicia Hubacz, as she discusses the state’s major forest health issues in 2022. Learn to identify current and future threats to our forest and how the DCR Forest Health Program monitors and manages for them.

Join Tom Ricardi for a close encounter with live birds of prey. Tom is the owner of the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center in Conway and cares for injured falcons, owls, eagles, and other raptors, rescuing between 125-150 birds a year. Retired from a 38-year career with the Massachusetts Environmental Police, Tom has had an interest in birds since he was a child and is considered the most knowledgeable resource for injured raptors in Western Massachusetts.
