SUMMARY:2025 Winter Lectures: River Restoration and The Vinica Brook Project at Norcross
DESCRIPTION:Join Norcross Board Chair and Regional Director of American Rivers Andy Fisk to discuss the process of reconnecting rivers and streams focusing on the Vinica Brook watershed restoration project.\n\nFrom the host: “Our rivers\, brooks\, and wetlands are the circulation system of a healthy environment. But over time humans have made decisions to block the healthy circulation of water by constructing dams and culverts. The Vinica Brook watershed in the Tupper Hill Sanctuary has many dams and culverts that were built over decades as part of Arthur Norcross’s vision that these ponds would improve and create habitat. Today we understand that this work wasn’t the best thing for the watershed and the Foundation is undertaking an important effort to make Vinica Brook on the Sanctuary better support native fish\, plants\, and mammals through dam and culvert removal. This presentation will be a general introduction to river restoration and a preview of work beginning to continue Arthur Norcross’s legacy of healthy and abundant habitats.”\n\n\n\nRegistration is required for this event as seating is limited. SUMMARY:Queer Plant Convergence 2024
DESCRIPTION:Queer Plant Convergence is an annual weekend gathering which seeks to bring together members of the regional LGBTQIA+ community who have a shared interest in wild plants and the environment. We welcome you whether you are newly plant-curious\, wanting to start a career with plants\, a passionate long-time plant lover\, or a plant-engaging professional. The only requirement is that attendees respect each other\, the land\, and all of its non-human inhabitants.   \nThe goals of this event are to forge connections\, establish a support network\, and work towards promoting diversity\, equity\, anti-racism\, and inclusion in the regional botanical community. We will explore the 2\,000+ acre sanctuary; learn from each other about plant ID and the different ways of interacting with and appreciating plants.   \nFor more information Queer Plant Convergence 2024 – The Norcross Wildlife Foundation
